podzilla - the 8th wonder of the iPod

advertisement

If your tired of just playing music on your iPod. Then you might want to check out podzilla. podzilla (not Podzilla) is a build of Linux specially ported for the Apple iPod. podzilla unlocks all the potential of your iPod including high quality video playback with audio, some games specially ported for the iPod, the 1st person shooter Doom ported directly from the source of the original game. The current features are:

* Scaled to your iPod's native resolution. * Full color version (256 colors as in original Doom) * Nicely dithered graphics for grayscale iPod * 10-20 FPS * Ability to use different WAD-files * Configurable controls via config-file * Ability to save and load games

There is a built in Video Player in podzilla that plays uncompressed .avi video files converted for the iPod. As long as the original video is high quality then the video will play in full quality. A whole movie pre-converted should be around 9-10GBs (on iPod photo) and should play on the iPod with 1 full battery charge.

iPod Linux dual boots with the original Apple firmware so you can enjoy both sides of Apple and Linux. iPodLinux is fully supported for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd generation iPods. The Minis, 4th Gens, Photos and Nanos work but are not fully supported by the iPL team. If you do not have a fully supported iPod it is reccomended for advanced users and installing iPod Linux does void your iPod's warranty and you might not want to do it until the warranty has expired.

What's this?
Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

Makes a decent .wav recorder out of a 3G iPod. Just plug a mic into the headphone jack (or talk into your left earbud...strange sound but it works!) and you're off.
